Associate Director – Development, Strategist, Choreographer
God is in the details, they say. Madhuri choreographs occasionally – but her work is rich with inspiration, detail, and the use of multiple media.
As a choreographer, Madhuri is more of a researcher, working on an advanced vocabulary that melds dance, fine and visual arts. Her natural interest in painting (reinforced with a degree in Fine Arts from the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath) expresses itself in myriad patterns in her choreography. Classical dance training rounds out her accomplishments, giving her creations structure and grounding.
Madhuri’s approach to contemporary dance draws from Indian folk culture, puppetry, and even from an individual dancer’s movements. Chittara (from Nritarutya’s recent Prayog-3) and What Do Puppets Do? are representative of her work; the former being one of Nritarutya’s most acclaimed pieces.
Primary Dancer, Administrator, CFO, Production Head
As any seer will attest, the path to understanding consciousness is fraught with uncertainty. Geetha, our primary dancer, believes that dance is the root of her search for meaning; and the means for her to reach out to people.
Her experience is hard to equal, and Geetha features in and contributes to the bulk of Nritarutya’s performances. She is known for her patented acrobatic stunts. Geetha currently works towards training our Youth team, Mysore in creative body-conditioning as well.
Geetha, methodical to a fault and with near-savant number ability, handles all our administrative work, production, and finance. While we appreciate her quest for understanding consciousness, most of us would be quite happy just understanding how she juggles all of that so well!
Prime Trainer, Principal Choreographer, Associate Director – Creative
“Pushing the body to its creative limits in the context of dance.” This angika abhinaya, or expression through the dancer’s body, is a significant influence in Sathya’s choreography.
Sathya trains Nritarutya’s core team in contemporary styles. His unique, physically demanding compositions make us reach deep within for reserves of strength. And his well-developed sense of humour can sometimes make workout sessions collapse with explosions of mirth! His talents extend to graphic design and music as well. He heads our creative department, and likes to edit music for his creations.
Always a student of dance, Sathya relentlessly pursues new levels in creative movement. His well-known creations include Mars, Tha, 3 Sides of a Coin and Intersections.
Primary Dancer, Associate Director – Fitness
The poetry of perfectly coordinated muscle. The near-feline grace only possessed by great athletes. Umesh is perhaps Nritarutya’s most eye-catching performer.
He considers dance an enterprising and spectacular bodily performance. On stage, you’ll see him pour every ounce of himself into his act; off stage, you’ll be lucky to hear more than a few well-chosen words.
Umesh’s athletic prowess has left many a jaw agape. Perfect 180-degree splits, breathtaking somersaults and flips are just part of his stock-in-trade. He particularly enjoys the rhythmic sine-wave like movements of Taek-Won Do.
The power and energy he brings to a performance are also channeled expertly into his role as associate director- fitness.
